Clients

How do I create a new client?
  • Click on Clients in the top menu
  • Click on the New client link at the bottom of the listing
  • Enter data as appropriate
  • Click Save
How do I edit a client?
  • Click on Clients in the top menu
  • Click on Edit next to the client you want to edit
What is client CSS?
  • This enables specialized branding per client, but it is not yet implemented.
How is the client email used?

Users

How do I create a new user?
  • Click on Users in the top menu
  • Click on the New user link at the right of the heading
  • Enter data as appropriate
  • Click Save
How do I edit a user?
  • Click on Users in the top menu
  • Click on Edit next to the user you want to edit
How do I adjust permissions for a user?
  • Permissions are assigned per project
  • Just Edit the project you want to change user permissions for
How is an administrator user different from a non-administrator user?
  • Administrators can add additional users and clients.

Projects

How do I create a new project?
  • Go to the Overview page
  • Click on the New link in the Project heading
  • Enter data as appropriate
  • Click Save
How do I edit a project?
  • Click on Overview>Project tab
  • Click on the edit project icon next to its name
How to archive a project?
  • Click on Overview>Project tab
  • Click on the edit project icon next to its name
  • in the new window, click on the “Complete Project” link.
How to revert an archived project?
  • Click on Overview>Project tab
  • in the upper right corner, click on the # completed projects link, then click on Revert next to the chosen project.

Milestones

What is a milestone?
  • Please refer to Getting Started document which describes milestones
How do I create a new milestone?
  • Edit the relevant project
  • Click on the New Milestone link
  • Enter data as appropriate
  • Click Save
How do I edit a milestone?
  • Go to the Overview page
  • Hover your mouse over the milestone you want to edit until an icon appears to the right of that milestone title
  • Click on that edit milestone icon

Tasks

How do I create a new task?
  • Click on the New Task button in the very top menu
  • Enter data as appropriate
  • Click Save
How do I edit a task?
  • Use the Overview, Browse, Reports, or Timeline screens to find the appropriate task
  • Click on the title of the task
How do I make a task repeat/recur?

Instead of entering a specific date (e.g. mm/dd/yyyy), enter a phrase. Here are some examples:

  • every day
  • every thursday
  • every last friday
  • every 14 days
  • every 3rd monday
  • every 3rd monday of june
How do I delete a task?

You can't actually delete a task, but you can delete a Project. Create a project called Delete, and put any tasks you want deleted into that project and as necessary delete the project. I do this monthly.

How do I stop all emails notifications?

Change the notification to off.

  • Preferences
  • Uncheck Send Notifications

You can still send a notification by checking Send Notification on any form you want to send an email on.

How do I remove time from a task?

You can subtract time using the Add Earlier Work button.

  • Click on Add Earlier Work
  • Enter the time with a - using h and m and not hh:mm style, e.g.:
  • -1h 07m
  • NOT -1:07

Files

How do I create a folder?
  • Click on Files in the top menu bar
  • Click the New Folder link to the right in the heading area
  • Select which project you want the folder to be affiliated with
  • Type the name you want for the new folder
  • Click the Create button
How do I upload a file?
  • Click on Files in the top menu bar
  • Option 1: in root directory
    • Click the New File link to the right in the heading area
    • Select which project you want the file to be affiliated with (this will determine permissions for the file)
    • Type the name you want for the new file
    • Click the Browse button and find the file you want to upload
    • Click the Upload button
  • Option 2: in an existing folder
    • Navigate to the folder you want to place the file inside of (this will determine permissions for the file)
    • Click the New File link to the right in the heading area
    • Type the name you want for the new file
    • Click the Browse button and find the file you want to upload
    • Click the Upload button

I need to track hours explicitly by hour/minutes, instead of with day shorthands. Changing the Workday length field does not help me.

What is the avatar and how is it used in ClockingIT?

The avatar is a 25 pixel by 25 pixel image that each user can upload. This image is displayed next to items assigned to that user – providing a quick visual marker indicating the user's personal responsibilities. A default avatar is provided.

The administrator/owner of an account cannot adjust the avatar for other users. The user must be logged in themselves to adjust the avatar.

How to keep the push_server running

On FreeBSD - there have been problems with the push server always dying:
